Open Road Park

Open Road Park was initiated and organized by Open Road, a New York City not-for-profit educational
organization founded in 1990 to work with NYC youth on outdoor environmental projects.

From 1990 to 2002 Open Road raised funds to create the park and coordinate design, construction and
operation. Open Road Park has received major funding from the NYC Department of Sanitation, NYC
Department of Education, The Trust for Public Land, the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation,
the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, the NYC Department of Design and
Construction, and the Manhattan Borough Presidents Office.

The land is owned by the NYC Department of Education, jointly operated with the NYC Department of
Parks and Recreation, and run by Open Road through a license with Parks. Open Road Park is part of
the Cityspaces program of the Trust for Public Land, and we run daily free programs in partnership with
East Side Community High School, New Design High School, and the Beacon Program based in East Side.

Our park is located on 12th street between 1st Avenue and Avenue A, in Manhattan, at Block 439, Lot 10
and is adjacent to East Side Community High School, 420 East 12th Street, NYC, NY 10009.
